Stress Management with Art Lesson Plan
Many students become overwhelmed with increasingly difficult tasks in school, especially in Special Education settings. Since stress management is not usually taught as a subject, most students are not coached how to handle stress. This plan gives students an outlet, through art, to help themselves recover from a stressful event. They can use this technique multiple times, to help them cope, rather than develop Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Standardized Test Inspired Motivational Thinking Lesson Plan
Prior to taking a standardized exam, help students learn to visualize themselves acing the exam. Practice first by examining the first enclosed cartoon and envisioning themselves with ideal pencils, erasers, etc. Remove the fear of the exam before it happens. Building a Positive Classroom Climate: Inclusion Activity Grades 6-9
This is an Inclusion Demonstration Activity for Grades 6-9 and would be great at "Back to School" time, for a Health class, a unit on discrimination or if bullying is an issue in your class.
It's called "Find a Group." Students go through this demo (silently) in which one or two students are unjustly excluded from the class. When the demo is over, a discussion follows as well as a written reflection.

Planning a Healthy Meal and Shopping Template (Special Education)
This is a meal planning guide that incorporates the 5 basic food groups. Students will use a cookbook to decide on the main course of the meal, and from there will add on side dishes to help balance the food groups presented in the meal. Students will then make a shopping list of the needed materials. If applicable, they can shop for the food items at the store, working to find the total cost of purchase, use the "dollar up" method to pay, and calculate the amount of change they should get back.

BMI Eating and Exercise Internet Simulation/WebQuest
Use this simulation webquest with your Anatomy, PE/Health, Biology, or Life Skills class to help students to understand the connection between caloric intake, exercise, and BMI. Students will also get an opportunity to investigate the impact of their own lifestyle and their body composition. This can also be used as a laboratory activity for a science class.

Human Body Corporation Debates
Fantastic constructivist curriculum unit integrating reading, research, oral communication, peer collaboration, technology, and debate with the content of the human body systems. Sure to be a motivating, memorable learning experience for elementary intermediate aged students on up through high school. CCSS's are only referenced for 4th grade - however, the amount of reading and oral communication standards addressed in this project is extremely comprehensive.

This couple activities will get your class using Spanish right away by interviewing partners and using the sign for hurt/pain in ASL to help with remembering the expression : Me duele/Le duele.
