Chemical Bonding: Soap Making Lab
This lab is part of the Chemical Bonding unit that uses the chemistry of soap to introduce the social justice question: "Should soap be considered a basic human right?" Students can use this lab to make soap and sell them to raise money for a charity, or students can make the soap to give away to a shelter in need. This is an excellent way to make chemistry relevant, relatable and culturally responsive.

Lung Capacity/Respiratory Lab
This lab activity explores the lung capacities of students and encourages them to hypothesize why lung capacity is different among their peers. All you need for this lab are some balloons, rulers, a calculator, and this handout! Students will measure tidal volume and expiratory volume, and investigate the relationships between these measurements. This is an engaging lab that can be completed in a health course, anatomy and physiology, or a life sciences course. Enjoy!

Types of Vertebrae Inquiry Based Lab
I created this lab activity for students to learn about the parts of a vertebra as well as to see differences between the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar bones.
For this lab, you should have 4 or more articulated skeletons for students to be able to group around and make observations. You will also need dis-articulated vertebrae so that you can group students into 2-4 and issue them one of each type of vertebrae to make notes and measurements.

Skull Bones and Landmarks
This labeling packet covers in detail the bones of the skull and major landmarks. There are 5 different views of the skull and a fetal skull page. I use this as a way to have students gain practice in learning bones and landmarks. I feel learning is maximized if students have a real skull model to look at while the teacher points out structures on the diagram for students to color/label. Students are then learning kinesthetically by touching model, labeling, and coloring. Retention is awesome!

Healthy Heart Rate
An excellent resource for an integrated science/health/physical education lesson about the importance of cardiovascular exercise. This worksheet is a lab students will complete while exploring how to determine one's heart rate and what effect cardiovascular exercise has on heart rate. Students will write a hypothesis, find their heart rate at rest for three trials, find their heart rate after exercise for three trials, and write a conclusion.
