I've created a handy-dandy set of posters (clear and easy to read once enlarged) that tell what summaries, paraphrasing, and retellings are and what they are not. She called it the perfect paragraph and used a hamburger as the visual. When I finally had my own classroom, even though I was teaching 6th grade, I knew I wanted to implement this strategy. I developed a visual that embodied her idea, and my students reference this each time we approach a writing project. We u

Writing Conclusion Paragraphs (TPT Method)

Teaching students to write effective conclusion paragraphs can be difficult for elementary students. The TPT process has worked well for me through the years and can be adapted at any level. You are simply teaching students to TRANSITION, restate their PURPOSE, and finish with any final THOUGHTS. I have typically used this TPT Process with opinion and informative writing.

Informational/Argument Response Expectations: What Does It Look Like?

I have put together 4 examples of informational writing based off of actual student work that reflects 4 different levels of quality: Unacceptable, Getting There, You Got It, and Beyond, PLUS a generic rubric that can be used for ANY short answer inform
