Applying Quadratics: (3) Free Falling Object Labs

Do you love hands-on activities to give your students opportunities to apply what they learn to real-world situations? Do you love the days when your students do something out-of-the-box and class "doesn't feel like a math class!" ? If you are looking at this resource, the answer is probably yes!Don't shy away if the thought of physics may intimidate you!! This lab includes an answer key and a teacher guide that walks you through these labs - no prior physics knowledge required!Lab 1: Students e

Guided Exploration: Exponential/Logarithmic Functions

63-item teacher-lead inquiry into properties and behavior of Exponential/Logarithmic Functions. Best used at the beginning of a unit on exponential/logarithmic functions (before demonstrating how to solve textbook problems), this activity invites students to use inductive reasoning and class discussion to discover the big ideas behind graphing exponential/logarithmic functions without a graphing utility.

BUNDLE: 45-45-90, 30-60-90, CIRCLE AND SQUARE PUZZLES

A collage of a circle and a square is presented; diagonals are inserted.* A chart below the figures is given for students to fill in the measurements of each segment and/or circumference based on one given value.* The puzzle is quite the challenge, but can be a rewarding activity to complete especially if students compete with one another in class to see who can fill the table fastest and most accurately.* Additionally, the puzzle can be used as an extra credit project when they finish daily as

Hands-On Right Triangle Trigonometry

After teaching students the lesson on right triangle Trigonometry, I take my students outside for this activity which is finding the height of the school flagpole by using right triangle trigonometry. My students make the Clinometers out of protractors, straws, string, and washers, then use them to find the angle of elevation from their line of sight to the top of the flagpole. This is a great hands on lesson that helps students understand what they are actually calculating in class!

It is five labs in one; the labs include data collection, analysis, plotting the data and verification of the results compared with ideal condition. It also includes discussion on how to generate a linear line from a non-linear equation and find the unknown(s) from the slope and/or intercept of the straight line. It is very suitable for AICE program.

Rasey Math
Use this activity to help your students discover and practice Quadratics. It covers graphing, quadratic formula, factoring, zeroes, roots, solutions, x-intercepts, axis of symmetry, min/max, increasing/decreasing intervals, and the vertex. Everything is on one page, so students learn that there are multiple ways to find the zeroes of a quadratic. Their knowledge allows them to pick the best method. This pack includes 2 versions, 16 total problems, all problems worked out in the included key.

In this lesson activity, students explore the value verses mileage of two different cars. The students use linear regression find a line of best fit for the value vs. mileage of each car. The two lines form a system of linear equations. Using their data and equations, students can determine when the values of the cars will be the same and decide which car depreciates at a slower rate.
