This is a comprehension cue card that I used with at-risk students. Each child can have one, or you can place one inside a file folder office during self selected reading time. The students glued the sheet to a piece of colored construction paper and then I laminated them. We discussed and practiced one box a day until we covered all of the boxes.

Students asked to find the arrow that points to the first word or the last word on the page that a person reading the book would read. Some higher order thinking of synthesis and application required as texts do not always print straight across in a row and challenge students to fully understand where first and last words occur in print concepts.

20 cards with high frequency words. Words are colour coded to assist with reading. Laminate and give one to each student. All students stand up and the student with the first class comes to the front and reads their card (Who has you?). They then sit down. The student who has you reads 'I have you. Who has some?' Then they sit down and so on. Fantastic early morning warm up.
