Created by
Tickled Primary
These are questions for a parent to ask their child when reading at home. There are questions for before reading a book and after reading a book. The questions are in English and Spanish. I put a copy of this page in students' take home book bags so that parents can work with students at home on comprehension.

The Bad Seed Worksheet

I made this Worksheet to accompany The Bad Seed story. The students will circle the choices that would make the seed feel "good" and will draw the seed after they have made him feel "good". I created this because many of the activities for this story talk about being "bad" vs being "good". I am in a SpEd classroom and we work hard to erase the stigma of the SpEd students being "bad". This activity will help them understand that none of us are "bad" we are just working hard to have good days and

Elementary School Weekly Reading Log (Editable)

I created this Reading Log for my First Grade students. It can be used for any K-5 teacher. This log is an editable word document. There are three versions. This reading log was placed inside a gallon sized Ziploc bag. I used Avery Labels for these Ziploc bags. Inside the bag were 4 books (1 book for each night). For weekly homework my students were to read one book. They would list what they read that night. Parents would sign off on the weekly log. This reading log would be returned to

This is a word document with 125 homeworks to be copy/pasted into any other format. Goes together with the 125 Kinder Math Homework. These homeworks came from my need to create more rigorous homework which could be done by the student more independently at home and still targeted to what we are learning in class. All homeworks are in Spanish only and are aimed at kindergarten students who are learning to read and write in Spanish. Other teachers at my campus use my homeworks, I've seen them p

These activities are also a great way for parents to see their child's progress throughout the school year. Most activities should be able to be completed within 10 minutes and they become more challenging as the year progresses. It can be adapted to include important events happening in your school such as Pic

The other sheet (I print this double-sided) includes instructions for the family member to help increase the child's fluency and comprehension at home. Decodable Fluency One Minute Reads

This is an ideal activity for Kindergarten, First Grade, or any student who is struggling with beginning decoding. Use these lists instead of flashcard to help your students decode words faster. Put one sheet in a fluency folder at a time and ask the student to work on this sheet with their family each night as part of their homework. It's quick and helps the child with decoding skills every night. When the child is ready have them read the list to you. Once a student masters a list, they g

Problem Solving can be a difficult task for many students, especially when they lack the knowledge, skills, and confidence to approach word problems in a successful manner. Dr. Thomas Carpenter, founder of CGI (Cognitively Guided Instruction) believe that students can be successful in solving math problems when the problems relate to things they know and when they are given the opportunity to explore all possible strategies. This year I am implementing CGI math problems throughout my math time

"Book in a Bag" is an activity that I use to reinforce reading fluency and comprehension skills. I find old leveled readers, A-Z booklets, or anything that is on that particular student's independent reading level and I send it home in a plastic, gallon size, zip-lock baggie with their name written on it in black Sharpie. The student keeps it at home for a week and returns it the next week for a new book. This way, I know that they are reading books at home that are on their own reading level. I

Dolch, Fry, Rebecca Sitton, Fountas and Pinnell - individually, they just don't cut it. Frustrated that requiring my students to study these lists (as ordered by the all-knowing and classroom-experienced administration) did not prevent them from failing to read fluently harder words that sight words are supposed to be designed to help ascertain, forced me to make my own. I painstakingly went through the readers (hundreds and hundreds) from the school's bookroom and counted how often I was encoun
