Testing the Cranial Nerves Lab
This is a fun way for students to test their own cranial nerves (some include a partner needed for help). I used lemon extract and mint extract (a few drops on a cotton ball in a small container) for my two smells. I used corn syrup and sterile swabs for the "sweet" taste and cocoa powder and sterile swabs for the "bitter" taste. I added the corn syrup and the cocoa powder myself into Dixie cups to limit contamination for each student.

Chemical Bonding: Soap Making Lab
This lab is part of the Chemical Bonding unit that uses the chemistry of soap to introduce the social justice question: "Should soap be considered a basic human right?" Students can use this lab to make soap and sell them to raise money for a charity, or students can make the soap to give away to a shelter in need. Lung Capacity/Respiratory Lab
This lab activity explores the lung capacities of students and encourages them to hypothesize why lung capacity is different among their peers. All you need for this lab are some balloons, rulers, a calculator, and this handout! Students will measure tidal volume and expiratory volume, and investigate the relationships between these measurements. Inspiration Vital Capacity Using an Incentive Spirometer
This is a hands-on lab that measures student lung volume. It tends to make students aware of how much their lungs are affected by vaping, smoking, second hand smoking, etc. I have had students weep when they realize their lung volume is merely 500 cc when it should be 2500-3000 cc. It uses an incentive spirometer that can be purchased online with coin filler paper wraps as makeshift mouth pieces.
