This is an easy lab safety contract that puts the responsibility back on the students rather than on you as the teacher. The contract is written in kid-friendly terms and can easily be explained in one class period. Students will create their own trail mix and kool-aid to demonstrate the difference between mixtures and special types of mixtures called solutions. I teach in a special-ed classroom and utilizing their measuring skills, and involving their taste buds make it easier for them to make a connection to the content.

This unit was designed as a way to incorporate STEM into a more traditional Science Fair model with connections to STEM careers. Galapagos Finch Lab: Evolution and Adaptation: Differentiated (2 levels)
Great quick lab to reinforce structural adaptations. Students use plastic forks, knives, and spoons as "beak types" to see which "bird" would be the "fittest" and to determine what would happen to the birds with the "other beaks."

Stadium Physics Lab- Finding Work, Energy, and Power of the Human Body, NGSS
This lab is editable and includes a teacher lesson plan with connections to NGSS.
The lab will give students the opportunity to work with energy, work, and power equations and calculate their power from moving up a set of bleachers. Students have a lot of fun with this lab and some of the athletes especially enjoy competing to have the most power.

Open A Restaurant Project for Prostart
This activity can be used as a final culmination of several topics in Prostart, including kitchen management and costing out of recipes. Students work in groups to design a restaurant, including: its theme, sampling of the menu, costing out items from the menu, and even preparing a dish they would theoretically serve in their restaurant. It will take about 2 days for planning and a third day for recipe completion.

Lung Capacity/Respiratory Lab

Heart Rate Investigation - Fitness in Health and Physical Activity
