Six Syllable Types Lesson, Chart, Practice Sheet, and Assessment
I use the following “lesson” to teach students how to break long words into syllables in order to decode them. The lesson should be taught over the course of several days. The length of instructional time and the amount of content covered each day should be based on the age and grade level of the students. I teach this lesson to students who are beginning at the Syllables and Affixes (Syllable Juncture) stage of spelling development.

Spelling Rules: -ion
Grades 6-12; ESL; Special Education Scaffolding Students will use these spelling rules to improve their writing and spelling. Each page has the rules listed and practice on how to use apply those rules both in adding the suffix -ion to words to create nouns and reverting them back to verbs. 2. They have 5 minutes to find their "partner".
3. Use a thesaurus to find other synonyms for their words.
