FREE Math Pre-Assessment of Basic Skills: Grades 6-8
This is a FREE Math Pre-Assessment that I use in my Grade 7 classroom. It looks at basic skills - multiplication, division, rounding, place value, area, fractions, percents, decimals etc. It's surprising how many students even in Grade 8 or 9 who struggle with long division, for example. This short pre-assessment gives you a starting place for working with your students in September.

This product contains problems that focus on unit rate and how to find unit rate. The worksheet also focuses on comparing the different prices of items found in a store. The students will find the unit rate of the price per item and then they will compare the prices. After finding the price per item, the students will find which item is the better buy.

Middle School First Day of School Activity (Math)
I use this first day of school activity to get to know the students and get them started with mathmatical thinking on our first day together. The students complete the worksheet, adding up all the numbers at the end, then as a class we order the totals and assign special names to each student based on their order. It isn't age specific, but I find that my Middle School students were very engaged by the process.

Microsoft Word Basic Keyboard Shortcuts Worksheet

Multiplying and Dividing Integers Partner Activity
Students are paired up for this activity. Each partner must solve a set of questions. The answer for each question number is the same for both partners but the problem is different. If a student gets a different answer then their partner, they must look at their work and their partner's work to determine where the mistake was made. This particular activity focuses on multiplying and dividing signed numbers.

Introduction to Integer Operations - word version with key
I made these worksheets for my 7th graders so they could begin practicing the rules for positive and negative integers with the positives and negatives in the same order in the problems. I wanted them to focus on the signs first and the numerals/numbers second. There is one page for each operation and the rules (same sign - add and keep the sign, etc.) are at the top of each page.

Multiplication Animal Challenge
This Mulitplication Challenge can be used to quiz your students on their multiplication facts. Print the quiz on the front and print the answer key --upside down-- on the back of the paper. This allows students to check thier own answers by simply folding the bottom or the top of the paper over to compare thier answers to the key. A little homework is available on the backside for students to practice just those facts that give them trouble.

Partial Product Multiplication Worksheet
Use this worksheet to help students understand partial product multiplication. Have student's glue down their numbers after you have checked it. I only include the numbers the students need at the beginning. As students improve I include multiple numbers that may not be a part of the product. Make multiple copies and have a completion competition or have small groups work on solving problems. Change the numbers in the template as needed.

This is a quick review or practice of basic conversions back and forth from ratios to percent and percent to ratios. I use this as warm ups and assessments. It has rounding embedded also mixed numbers, large percents and repeating & terminating decimals. It's a great review of rational numbers!

I use this the first week of school to review multiplication and see if my students know their multiplication facts. Once I ensure their answers are correct, students cut out the table and glue it to the back of the cover to their interactive notebooks. We also use it to make a class set of multiplication flash cards. When a student finishes something early, I hand them a stack of cards to review.

This activity encourages it's users to be creative, budget, take personal and dietary needs into consideration. Young adults, have trouble thinking about others and planning ahead. This activity encourages youth to do both of these.
The user is given a budget, items with prices and friends with dietary preferences and needs. After the user chooses meal plan, he or she must then answer comprehension and critical thinking questions about diet, budgeting, and personal choices.
