Exponent Dice Game

I created this dice game for students to practice exponents after our multiplication lesson on exponents. The strategy of the game is to choose the base and exponent that will give you the highest answers, because at the end the students will have to total up their answers in order to see who wins with the highest total. This helps with number sense, multiplication practice, and understanding exponential form.

Prime Factorization (or Factor Tree)

This activity / assessment has 16 questions where the student fills in the factor tree. It is a great way to start the kids thinking about factoring polynomials. it will also tell you who knows their multiplication tables. The students who could do these were able to factor more easily and were more likely to be able to apply it to factoring polynomials like x^2 + 10x +21 (x+3)(x+7) I put in an answer key too so you could leave this with a substitute teacher :-)

NOGGLE!- A Fun Math Warm-Up Activity

Noogle is played like the game Boggle, but uses numbers instead. Students are challenged to find a string of numbers that meet the different categories. Students may use any operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication or division). Great for GATE students, early finishers, or as a Math Center activity. Product comes as a Microsoft Word document so that you can change the numbers as often as you would like. You can also keep the grid blank and have students write in their own numbers or

Multiplying and Dividing Monomials (Guided Notes on Exponent Rules)

This lesson is meant to be used as guided notes for a whole class. Students begin by learning what IS and IS NOT a monomial. They then multiply some monomials in order to discover the rule: We can add their exponents. After solving a few problems, they do the same thing with dividing monomials to discover that rule: Subtracting the exponents. Finally, students are shown a proof/explanation as to why a number raised to the power of 0 equals 1. *This lesson is definitely just an intro to multiplyi

Powers and Exponents (Guided Notes)

This lesson is meant to be used as guided notes for a whole class. Students begin by learning what exponentiation really means. They are shown that exponentiation is shorthand for repeated multiplication in the same way that multiplication is shorthand for repeated addition. Next, they learn terms such as base, exponent, and power. Before solving any problems, they are taught what it means to have 1 or 0 as an exponent, as students frequently confuse these basic properties. Then they learn how

Inequality Word Problems

This worksheet has students write and solve inequalites. Students tend to get confused when the inequality says more than, a maximum, at least etc. This worksheet takes one problem and re-words it in 6 differnet ways. Very good at making sure students can write all types of inequalities when given a word problem.
