Grant: Winning Proposal for LEGO Mindstorm Robotics Kits

This is a winning grant proposal to purchase LEGO Mindstorm Invention System robotics kits to use for science, physics, technology and engineering activities. A state electrical cooperation awarded $1500.00 for this grant in 2002. This proposal is customizable and can be adjusted to compensate for the variations in prices and costs of the equipment so please adjust this grant as you see necessary to meet your project needs. The customizable parts of this proposal are highlighted in yellow. The R

Group Project Peer and Self Evaluation Worksheet

Great for all group or team projects. Offers multiple criteria for students to effectively evaluate their performance and those of their peers. Open questions allow for more nuanced details. I find most students are very honest and fair with this form. I use this in all of my engineering project courses, especially FIRST FTC robotics.

STEM Pathways
In this project students are tasked with working on an engineering design team in the development of a solution to a given problem. The provided scenario provides students the option of designing a remote-controlled car which either resembles a tow truck and is required to produce a high torque output, or a car that resembles a dragster and is required to produce a high-speed output. These contrasting problems are designed to show how gear trains can be used to change output speeds and torque an

This is a great resource to get your VEX EDR classroom or kit organized. Small photos along with names for all of the VEX EDR small parts. I've printed mine then attached to drawers using packing tape. It's in word format so you can resize to fit your storage. It could also be printed for student notebooks or classroom reference poster. I'm not a fancy teacher- It's just the simple parts and names.

Competitive Robotics Team Job Descriptions

Full set of team job descriptions for a FIRST or VEX competitive team. To be successful in FIRST especially a team of students needs to specialize, this also allows students to build a better understanding of how professional engineering project teams can work. Students in my robotics class apply for at least three jobs over the course of the year to build diverse skill sets. Providing job descriptions helps to manage the workload of the team and support teacher and mentors in preparing teams f

This is a 7 page packet that I use for a project grade to teach my students about the financial decisions they will be making one day. It walks them through the steps for finding a career, college expenses, house expenses and car expenses and then setting up a final budget. You could combine this with my excel template and have it be a complete project grade or just use it for different activities for calculating loans and budgets. My middle school students really enjoy looking for houses and ca

VEX IQ - Build a better Claw

Created by
Robot-HQ
This claw performs much better than the claw of the standard VEX IQ Clawbot. 1. Due to the 1:3 gear ratio, it is easier to control and has more torque. 2. The only place where torque is transferred by a shaft, is from the motor to the drive gear. All other torque transfers are done via gears and connectors – making it much sturdier. 3. It is a very compact design.
