Purpose: Use the concepts of inertia, force, speed, acceleration, and Newton’s Laws, as well as internet research and prototype testing to design a container that will protect a raw egg from breaking.
Challenge: Design and build a container, using a budget, that will protect a raw egg from breaking when dropped from 2 meters off the ground, then 3 meters, then 4 meters, and so on. The winning team is the one that protects the egg from the highest drop using the least amount of money.

Try It Before You Buy It! NGSS Force and Motion - Sail Car (grades K &3)

Paper Volume Cubes: Understanding Volume Through Paper Craft

Students will construct cubes by folding and taping paper templates. Students will then calculate the volume of each cube. Since the cubes have volumes of as little as 1 cubic centimeter, up to 125 cubic centimeters, they can be used as a standard reference for estimating the volume of other objects. Defend your kingdom! Students try to build a catapult that can launch a cotton ball "boulder" at the enemy that is located exactly one foot away.
