Kid-Friendly Narrative Writing Rubric
This is a rubric that uses kid-friendly terms for commonly expected standards in a narrative writing. It uses the visual of ice cream scoops to illustrate the scores of 4, 3, 2, or 1.

This worksheet can be used as independent practice and/or assessment. It contains 10 sentences. Students read the sentences and rewrite them using provided conjunctions to make one compound sentence. It can also be used as a partner activity. Compound sentences is a skill introduced in first grade, but can be used in other grades for practice and review.

This narrative tool kit has been designed based on the Talk for Writing program (Pie Corbett). It is editable, therefore can be changed depending on the tool kit items you discuss with your class. There are two tool kit checklists for each of the narrative components (introduction, build up, problem and resolution) - one with pictures for lower literacy students, and one for higher literacy abilities.
