If there are no eggs, baking powder, or baking soda in this recipe, what will they bake like in terms of texture, spread, and structure? I do this experiment after a no bake cookie dough demo. The teacher will buy a variety of breads such as banana bread, pumpkin bread, etc. Another way is to have parents donate the items needed. I usually put up a sign up sheet in my Classroom Shutterfly website. Another good idea is Sign Up Genius. The point is to have different types of bread for the students to taste. Then ask which they thin they will like more. Taste and find out, I like to do this in small groups during centers. I have a parent man the center.

These directions will walk students through an experiment to determine how food rises. I use sandwhich baggies, vinegar and baking soda to demonstrate how chemical reactions happen, which cause food to rise. These directions are time tested and measurements are the best for varied results. This lesson is especially enjoyed by younger students. I taught it in a Food Science class for 6th graders, but it would be suitable for younger grades as well. If you discuss before and after the experim
