3rd Grade Reading STAAR Bingo Vocabulary Game
I created this bingo game while looking at previous STAAR tests and lists of “stem questions” for reading. I noticed many of my students (especially my ELLs) had trouble with terminology used on the test. I wanted a fun way for them to become more familiar with the test vocabulary.
I used this game whole class, small group, during tutoring, and I even gave it to my Tier II and Tier III teachers who were enlisted to help prepare them for the reading test.

Inference Clue Game
This is a version of the game of Clue that forces students to use inferences to deduce the clues and figure out the details of the murder. I wanted my classes to have a fun activity that still forces them to practice their inferencing skills. The first page is a chart for students to mark of their clues. The next two pages contain my made up clues that allows students to use the power of elimination to solve the mystery. I cut these clues into strips and place them in envelopes for each student

Jenga Comprehension Questions
I have developed 54 reading comprehension questions. You can cut these questions out, then tape them on to individual jenga pieces. Students take turns drawing the pieces, if the student does not topple the tower, they do not have to answer the question. If they do, they must answer all of the previous questions. I make my students write the prompt as well as the answer. You can change the words however you need to fit the needs of your class.

Get two games in one! Game #1 is a TRUE and FALSE game about the book Balto and the Great Race. Game #2 is a FACT and OPINION game with a Balto and Alaska theme. Inferences & Conclusions riddles game
This is an activity for inferences and conclusions that you could use at stations, as a group activity, or even as independent practice. You can cut the strips up and put them in envelopes, and a partner can read each strip; in essence, they are clues or inferences. The other person has to use his/her prior knowledge to infer what each one is.

Reading EOG Question and Skill Matching - Common Core
This matching games helps students figure out what skill they're being asked on standardized tests like the EOG. LEAP! Blends nonsense word game
This game uses blend non-sense words to facilitate decoding skills. Each player draws a card. If they can read the card, they get to keep it. If they draw "LEAP!" they have to return all of their cards to the pile. My first graders LOVE playing non-sense word games every week. It's great for me because they are having fun while learning!

DRAWING CONCLUSIONS GAME: Tic Tac Toe HOW Do You Know?
(Note! These materials can be laminated and used year after year.) This is a simple game similar to the INFERENCE GAME of Tic Tac Toe that I have posted, but designed specifically to teach students what "drawing conclusions" means, and how it is applied. As a teacher, I found very little that explained this skill simply, or practiced it meaningfully, and this game accomplishes both.
