Opposite Operations Graphic Organizers

These graphic organizers are a great way to facilitate higher order thinking skills in math. They cover the following: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. These graphic organizers are in PowerPoint format, so you can change the color and/or math operations as you see fit. All organizers start with a space to create an equation for each operation (abstract) and moves down to provide space for students to represent each equation in a concrete and/or representational format.

It has long been known that graphic organizers deepen and clarify students' understanding of a story or article. We use them starting in kindergarten and continue to use them through high school and beyond. Years ago I discovered there were very few math graphic organizers. The few I did find were very specific to a particular math concept. I found nothing that bridged reading and math problem solving (word/story problems), so I made my own. Over the years, I have reworked the graphic organizers

This is a simple problem solving template you can use to teach students to break down addition or subtraction problems into steps and work them out. Use this with the concrete, representational, abstract instructional method by having students work out problems with manipulatives first, then progress to drawing and finally to writing the number sentence. It is in WORD format so you can edit as needed. I often take problems from our Envision Math adoption and put them in this format to assist st

First graders learn to count on charts starting with the number "one." However, ZERO should be the first number for a Base 10 counting system. When students reach 9, they realize a new level will be started. Then the whole line reflects the 10s, or 20s, etc.
