One of the biggest portions of daily life in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten is the ability to write one's first and last name. Early Elementary teachers see common issues in child's writing of their names that includes, but is not limited to: omissions, reversals, and general messiness. With this assessment, a teacher can actively see the student's growth in writing their name. Each quarter the student writes their name and their progress is tracked in their portfolio!

At the beginning of the year, I write my students' address and phone number in yellow highlighter for them to practice tracing. As they begin to memorize their information, I fade the highlighting until they are practicing on their own. I put the page in a sheet protector for daily use again and again.
