Unit Circle Project

Make the study of the Unit Circle meaningful with this inquiry project. Students do not just memorize the unit circle, they deduce how it is created. Students derive the points on the unit circle. Students complete a table of the relationships within a unit circle, an essential reference tool for Trigonometry or Pre-Calculus.There are 2 complete options for this project: - Option A for interactive notebooks. - Option B (p. 10-12) for poster board or other presentation format. This resource

Polynomial Function Project - Roller Coaster

Created by
Algomath
In this project, students learn how to use polynomial function to model roller coaster rides. In this first part, they are given some polynomial functions to find the relative maximum/minimum, increasing/decreasing intervals, x- and y-intercepts, etc. They will explore the average rate of change. In the second part of the project, students are asked design their own roller coaster given some basic criteria. Students should use graphing devices/computer applications to complete this project.

Trigonometry Project

Students use a picture of themselves and create a trigonometry story, i.e. a word problem that pertains to their particular picture. This is a great application of SOH CAH TOA! I have included a sample of what the project could look like. The sample one isn't typed but it gives the overall objective of the project. Students can really let their creativity shine!

Polynomial Roller Coaster Project

This project helps to tie in all the key pieces of polynomials into a real-life applicable concept. This project helps students delve deeper into their learning to apply these concepts on a broader scale. They are required to create a rollercoaster using a set of requirements that they place into a table and move on an online graph.

Project - Graphing Parent Functions: Stained Glass Window

Created by

Students must create and graph ten different functions with transformations based on the following parent functions - linear, quadratic, absolute value. Restrictions on transformations are required. Students are then directed to color in each section to create a stained glass window effect. Rubric, directions, and student worksheets included.

Students must create functions based off commands. When they are graphed together (on paper and on a graphing calculator) they create an image of a grumpy old man. I use this activity before I have the students create their own image on Desmos.com. They say it is really helpful for them. Practices: - Function transformation with linear, absolute value, quadratic, square root, cubic, and cubed root functions. - Finding domain and range. - Finding key/anchor points. - Graphing with restricted

The Rollercoaster project is interactive and hands-on to assess the student's knowledge of polynomials and slopes. Students work in groups of 3-4 and will complete the assignment in roughly a week. Teachers can alter the amount of time needed for completion. Student's have their own roles and room for creativity. This would work as a great quarter project for a review of turning points, end behaviors, and writing polynomial functions.
