This project allows students to assess their knowledge of algebraic expressions through their learning style. There is a menu of choices where students are guided to an activity based on how they prefer to think/learn. This assesses 7.EE.A.1 7.EE.A.2 and 7.EE.B.3 for Common Core. 6.EE can also be used if you tweak the rubric a bit. Also incorporates Mathematical Practice Attend to Precision. Allowing choice really creates buy-in from students and gets them excited to show what they know.Grading
This documents provides a rubric for a Black History Month Project which includes a biography and a presentation. This project can easily be modified for Women's History Month and National Hispanic Heritage Month. Students are graded on 4 categories which are worth a total of 5 points each. The project is worth 20 points and can easily be converted to a percentage by multiplying by 5.

This project allows students to discover where some of the foundations of math come from. Students research a famous mathematician to learn about their early life, education, and contributions. The students must then describe WHY the contributions are important to math and/or their lives. This project is a "media project" - the students' projects are not paper/pencil, but instead created on a computer (powerpoint, prezi, typed report, etc.) A rubric is included to help evaluate the projects.
