I created, printed, and laminated these comprehension strategy cards and put the cards on a ring. Each of these 15 cards has a strategy (inferring, main idea/details, questioning) and graphic organizer ideas or sentence starters that students can refer to when reading independently. Common Core Close Reading (The High School Annotation Survival Guide)
Close reading a text is an essential skill to teach, especially in a high school English class following a Common Core aligned curriculum. My annotation strategy teaches students to record the gist of each paragraph or chunk of text on the right and talk back to the text using symbols on the left.
