High school reading strategies games for Microsoft Word
Inference Clue Game
This is a version of the game of Clue that forces students to use inferences to deduce the clues and figure out the details of the murder. I wanted my classes to have a fun activity that still forces them to practice their inferencing skills. The first page is a chart for students to mark of their clues. The next two pages contain my made up clues that allows students to use the power of elimination to solve the mystery. I cut these clues into strips and place them in envelopes for each student

Jenga Comprehension Questions
I have developed 54 reading comprehension questions. You can cut these questions out, then tape them on to individual jenga pieces. Students take turns drawing the pieces, if the student does not topple the tower, they do not have to answer the question. If they do, they must answer all of the previous questions. I make my students write the prompt as well as the answer. You can change the words however you need to fit the needs of your class.

Inferences & Conclusions riddles game
This is an activity for inferences and conclusions that you could use at stations, as a group activity, or even as independent practice. You can cut the strips up and put them in envelopes, and a partner can read each strip; in essence, they are clues or inferences. The other person has to use his/her prior knowledge to infer what each one is.
I am uploading this activity as a Microsoft Word file so that you may edit or "dress up" the activity to suit your needs.

This is a digital breakout that I created. Since this is digital your students will need to have access to at least one computer/laptop per group. This work great with groups of 2 or 3, but no more. "THE THINGS THEY CARRIED" by Tim O'Brien - Characters Grid
There are many people in Tim O’Brien’s "The Things They Carried," so students may find it challenging to remember “who’s who.” When I taught this book in “Introduction to College Reading” in my university’s pre-college summer program, students jotted notes in this 16-box grid as they read.
