Newton's Second Law of Motion Laboratory Activity - Weight Lab

Students will participate in hands-on learning through data collecting, analyzing, reflecting, and connecting. Students will use bar-weights or other roll-able weights to study how mass affects the amount of force needed to stop or start motion. Students will analyze the data they gather in real-time, and use their data to draw a connection to Newton's Second Law of Motion. NGSS Standards:Primary: MS-PS2-2Secondary: MS-PS2-1

This min-lab allows students a hands on look at the difference in convex and concave lenses. Students really enjoy this activity and have had success in generalizing similarities and differences in the lenses concavity and focal lengths. I have used this in 11th grade physics/physical science classes, but it could also work in lower grades, as it just focuses on students making observations and generalizing them.

Using the internet, students find the frequency and wavelength ranges of the seven different regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, then they find three real-world uses of each region. Provided are *rough* numerical wavelength and frequency ranges (in both metric prefix and exponentials), and example (but not exhaustive) real-world uses.In order to complete this worksh

Flying Pig Circular Motion Investigation

In this experiment students use an inexpensive flying pig or air plane toy that revolves on a string in circular motion. The students change the length of the string and then collect data of the height of the cone made by the toy against the period of the circular motion. They then linearize this data. The slope of the linearized graph should equal 4Pi^2 /g, so they are able to compare the accepted value of g to the measured value to see if results are within experimental uncertainty. Students
