DSO Kids: Instrument Research Project
This activity is ideal for classrooms without access to many instruments, but available technology for each student. In this project, students are exploring a virtual symphony where they are able to select instruments, listen to them play solo, and with an orchestra, learn about the instrument's family, visual appearance, how the instrument is played, and more. Instruments of the Orchestra Research/eBook Project
Notetaking outline for Orchestral Instrument Research Project. The final product we created with this information was an e-book (we used BookPress- free app. Here is an e-book I created as an example for my students: http://www.bookemon.com/read-book/305095), but we have used posterboard in the past when technology was not available. I do this project with my 5th graders to prepare them for band/orchestra selection in middle school.

This is an assignment I developed for my grade 6-8 students. It requires them to have basic knowledge of the GarageBand program (I used iPads), as they will be choosing a song of their choice to cover. This assignment is designed to be completed in partners, and took my guys roughly one month, having two, 40 minute periods per week.

JWPepper Exploration Independent Work
I went through how to use JWPepper with my 6th graders- starting with going to "String Orchestra," and showing them the different categories. We explored together as a class and listened to songs within the "Easy" and "Medium Easy" range (You can change this based on the group).
