Bats - Poetry Packet
This is a collection of poetry station (center) activities to go along with the poem Bats. There are 5 activites included which keep my kids busy and excited during their poetry station time. I usually glue page 1 on a folder to let the kids know what poem is in the folder. I copy pg. 3 on regular paper for the kids to use to glue and practice writing the poem. I copy the rest of the pages on card stock and laminate them. I put the instructions (pg. 2) in the folder. I also cut apart (pg. 6)

I created these cards as a matching activity to use with my 6-8th grade students as a review activity. I have used it with lower grades as an introduction to the different types of poetry. Pages 3 – 8 are the colorful cards. Pages 9 – 14 are the same cards but in a black and white version. (These could be printed on colorful cardstock or on white paper then mounted on construction paper for stability.)
Feel free to use these as a matching game or version of “go fish”.

Poetic Device Scavenger Hunt
Distribute some poems and have students identify and highlight poetic devices like similes, metaphors, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and imagery. Discuss what these are and the overall impact on the reader's experience.
Poetry Analysis Jigsaw
Divide students into small groups, assigning each group a different poem. Have each group analyze the assigned poem's themes, tone, and literary devices, and present their findings to the class.
