Beethoven is always the "classical composer" kids think of when asked to think of a classical composer, so they are on board with learning more about him. This is an activity that can be incorporated into your curriculum or easily done by a sub who is not skilled in music. To further enrich the lesson, you could have students do a Power Point about Beethoven's greatest accomplishments in pictures...or whatever they come up with.

This is a great activity for a sub or for an extended warm-up....or just for a day when your voice is giving out and you just need the students to work on something independently for 30 minutes or so. I suggest supplementing the activity with some recordings of brass ensembles, or better yet, have the students find some on their own if they have access to media.
