DSO Kids: Instrument Research Packet
This research packet accompanies the DSO Kids Instrument Research Project. Students will be filling in information on the instrument name, family, its audible and physical description, the parts, a sketch, etc. If you would like to go a step further after students have completed written research, you can have them present their favorite instrument on a poster or PowerPoint presentation with a YouTube video display of someone playing that instrument.

Famous Female Composers - International Women's Day Research Activity
A quick music research activity in honour of International Women's Day (March 8th). Students are required to research 3 different female composers: One from eras pre-1800; one from the late modern era (1800-1900's), and one from the 20th century to present day. DSO Kids: Instrument Research Project
This activity is ideal for classrooms without access to many instruments, but available technology for each student. In this project, students are exploring a virtual symphony where they are able to select instruments, listen to them play solo, and with an orchestra, learn about the instrument's family, visual appearance, how the instrument is played, and more. After introducing this project, I give students about 2-3 days in class to work on their computer/laptop/tablet and fill out the 'Notes'

I went through how to use JWPepper with my 6th graders- starting with going to "String Orchestra," and showing them the different categories.
