First Day of School - Drawing, Writing, and Reflection Activity
I've done this activity for the past few years on the first day of school.
We read "First Day Jitters" and list emotions that we feel on the first day of school. We discuss how we may feel a few things - and some people feel differently than ourselves (and that's okay!).
Students write how they feel and illustrate themselves. It goes up on our bulletin board beside an actual photo of them holding up their "First day of ___" sign! It's a great bulletin board for Open House.

Reaching for the Stars Art Project
I used this art project as a "get to know you" beginning of the year activity. The students completed the activity as a center and all of the hands were put together to create a decoration for the outside bulletin board. The hands reach toward what we decided was our "class goal" and served as a reminder for students throughout the year. At new years, we updated the board.
