Tides and Moon Phase Graph Activity using NOAA

Students will develop a graphical model of the Earth-Sun-Moon system to describe the cyclic patterns of lunar phases and how they affect our tides. NGSS-MSESS1-1 In this activity, students will go to the NOAA website and collect tidal data from a region around the US. Students plot a month of tidal data and predict the moon phases based on how high the high tides are and how low the low tides are (spring vs neap tides). Students are amazed to find that their predictions are right by looking a

Lots of downloads, are there any comments or votes for me? :) Type in the daily temperature on your computer with your students and it will automatically graph it for you as you type. You can pre-print the monthly graph for everyone in your class and they can follow along and graph with you. I use it with calendar math or other daily activities. Great for explaining the scales of a graph and practicing accuracy in graphing and using rulers to connect lines. Look for trends in weather and a

I use this excel sheet to graph the weather each day. Simply copy the rectangle under the weather, and paste it in its column to form a bar graph. Every month, save and print the weather, then start fresh with a new sheet. You can then compare weather in September to weather in January to weather in April. Make sure page layout is landscape and margins are set to "narrow" before printing! I project this excel sheet onto our smartboard, so that the students can see the data and count/analyze as

Carbon Footprint Project (FULL BUNDLE!): Chemistry or Environmental Science

This project gives a template for students to calculate their Carbon footprints using skills that are important for Chemistry and/or Environmental Science (e.g. dimensional analysis, understanding the carbon cycle, understanding that different gases have different warming potential, etc). This lays out a comprehensive way to calculate Carbon Footprint particularly at a boarding school in Southern California. You can easily adapt this project for your needs or how much time you'd like to spend on
