History of Immigration Readers Theater

This readers theater explains the history of immigration to the United States. I have used it as a whole class language arts/history activity by numbering each line. My students all have numbers so it is easy for them to see what part they have to say. Each line is short as to keep the reading moving. The script can be adapted for any number of students by editing the numbers next to each line. I have used this readers theater as an introduction to a unit as well as a final wrap-up.

"Blood of a Yankee" is a great way to whet the appetite of your students, sparking their interest and curiosity in the Civil War. The story is a personal narrative about a boy who happens to live during one of America’s most tumultuous events, the war between the states. As in any conflict there is always more than one side. This story raises another aspect of the war, what if you don’t want to fight? In the past I have used "Blood of a Yankee" to introduce the Civil War to my students, and it

Socratic Seminar - The American Revolution - Common Core Aligned

This Socratic Seminar allows teachers to have students focus on broad themes and undercurrents that surrounded the events of the American Revolution. By providing teachers and students with the option to cover overarching discussion points, such discussions allow for more breadth than a typical Socratic Seminar, but still give teachers the option of selecting specific text excerpts for inclusion in the seminar as well. In this way, the discussion works more as a Thematic Seminar. The thematic s
