Opinion Writing - Understanding Parts of a Paper Dog Autopsy Activity
THE STUDENTS GET TO IMAGINE THAT THEIR DOG HAS JUST EATEN THEIR HOMEWORK. THEY TAKE IT TO A VETERINARIAN TO GET THE HOMEWORK OUT. THE VETERINARIAN ASKS THE STUDENT TO ASSIST THEM WITH GETTING THE PAPER OUT. STUDENTS THEN STICK THEIR HANDS INSIDE THE DOGS STOMACH (32 OUNCE YOGURT CONTAINERS, OR CONTAINERS OF EQUAL SIZE) AND PULL OUT DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE PAPER, AND MUST PUT THEM TOGETHER. Step by Step Theme Essay In Groups
Students will read the picture book Pink and Say. Once the story is complete students will be taken step by step throughout the process of writing an essay. Each individual step will be discussed and reviewed starting with a thesis statement to the final draft. Instruction will allowed for differentiation based on needs and abilities. Students can then show their ability to write an essay by working on their own based on the novel of their choice.
