Sight words can be difficult for children to memorize, especially if they do not make sense phonetically. To give my kiddos an edge I provide different activities to help them learn. In addition to flash cards and bingo games I use this file folder game, it includes all 46 Second Grade Dolch Sight Words.

This activity allows for students to create and it is a great way to give choice at the same time practicing Bloom's taxonomy higher order critical thinking skills. Skill: Design a Word Search to review vocabulary with a partner. Students decide how to arrange the words on the grid page before giving the word search to a peer to solve.

Steinbeck Of Mice and Men Chapters 5-6 Dictation Matching Vocab Test (20 Words)
This is meant to be a dictation test that can be rewritten with words in different orders for retakes. The idea is for students to get the words written down quickly after you've said them each 2-3 times so you can do other things while they take the time to match them. To grade, I suggest going through the spellings first, weighting them less than the correct definitions. I usually do 1 point/spelling and 2 points/definition for a total of 60 pts.
