TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Alumni of UCLA (B.A.) and CSULA (M.A.), I have taught elementary and middle schools, from Los Angeles, California to Glasgow, Scotland, as a Fulbright Exchange teacher. I also studied Children’s Literature at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain. Having had an eventful year, I returned to study Spanish Pedagogy and Methodology at José Ortega y Gassett. I have served as the Campus Director for PSIA (Private School Interscholastic Academic), the Adviser for NJHS (National Junior Honor Society), the GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) Coordinator. I have covered the whole spectrum in elementary and middle school education, but I also lead project-based courses designed to challenge the gifted mind in a pull-out program. I have taught for SIG (Summer Institute for the Gifted) at UCLA to a cadre of international students: Saudi Arabia, Saigon, Taiwan, S Korea, and Sweden, but I had students from Seattle, Boston, and Los Angeles who represented the United States.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I use a plethora of best practices, but my classroom is driven primarily by two. Known as the PBL model, Product and Problem Based Learning stretch students in more ways than the traditional classroom does, building a complex highway system that the human brain needs to develop. Product based learning involves the student learner to create, design, and produce an object or artifact, in other words, a product, that pertains to the course objective. Problem based learning involves the student learner to simulate, infer, re-enact, make generalizations and judge a problem using as guidance their own conscience.
