These expository writing prompts are set up to be printed on 3.5 index cards. The set contains 55 different prompts each on a separate card. Included is a two-card explanation of how to write an expository paper. It is recommended that you print this set on a colored index card. I will be posting additional sets in different genres. It will be much easier to keep the various genres organized if each is on a different color. Have fun!

Card Sort: Help students understand the structure of a Persuasive Essay. Cut out the words and definitions. Mix them up and place them in an envelope. Have students work in pairs to match them. Walk around the room checking their progress and giving speedy feedback.

Student Friendly Writing Objective Cards
These cards were developed using the Common Core standards in language that students can understand. The objectives are colorful and include color pictures pertaining to the objective. Per Marzano Research, one of the best ways to improve student achievement is to have the objective explicitly stated, now that's easily done with adding magnets to the back of these strips.
