Music and Sound Therapies Worksheet
This activity consists of text and illustrations about the benefits of different types of music and singing, many of which are still being researched. The text is followed by a comprehensive set of questions. This is a great project for a substitute, as anyone can teach it without musical knowledge. I suggest having the students work in pairs to read it out loud to each other for better comprehension, or reading it together as a class, then working on the questions as individuals.

The Blues: An Overview
This is a great not-too-long assignment for Black History Month in any class or for any music class, whether vocal or instrumental. Rehearsal Self-Evaluation
This sheet is a simple yet powerful tool. Hand it out to 3 or 4 students in every rehearsal and let them know that while they rehearse, they are to simply circle the answers to the questions, then they are to take about the last 5 minutes of rehearsal to fill out the back. You will be amazed at how well students behave when reminded what good rehearsal skills look like. You could easily adapt this for instrumental music or for any class.
