I found that students lacked a true understanding of the institutionalized racism and social/political/economic challenges African Americans faced in the 100 years between the end of slavery and the first breakthroughs of the Civil Rights Movement. To provide more context, I created this assignment explaining sharecropping, the KKK, Jim Crow Laws, Poll Taxes, Literacy Tests, and Grandfather Clauses. It is very informative and great for class discussion afterwards and linking to modern times.

UPDATE 8/1/2021 - I have converted the PowerPoints included in this bundle to google slides as well with all of the video included. You will get both with this package. This is a great deal of the materials that I use for my U.S. Government and U.S. Government Honors classes. This probably will not carry you for an entire school year, but it's close. Some of the things that I do in my class I do not have rights to (textbook worksheets, etc.) and I’m in no position to share. I also teach financi

But do they really know if they are truly conservative or liberal: democrat or republican? This activity explores all of their beliefs and thoughts on a number of world/national issues and begin to filter their political preferences to one side of the spectrum or the other. This IS NOT an exercise to pin students against students, but rather to
