What educators are saying

This was a great way to review with my students topics that their lecture and notes had gone over and to read another historical account of events from the time period. It was a very good summary that used a good graphic organizer for students to sort information with.
This was a fantastic resource to highlight the struggles that African Americans faced during Reconstruction. Very informative!

Description

I found that students lacked a true understanding of the institutionalized racism and social/political/economic challenges African Americans faced in the 100 years between the end of slavery and the first breakthroughs of the Civil Rights Movement. To provide more context, I created this assignment explaining sharecropping, the KKK, Jim Crow Laws, Poll Taxes, Literacy Tests, and Grandfather Clauses. It is very informative and great for class discussion afterwards and linking to modern times.
