I found that students lacked a true understanding of the institutionalized racism and social/political/economic challenges African Americans faced in the 100 years between the end of slavery and the first breakthroughs of the Civil Rights Movement. To provide more context, I created this assignment explaining sharecropping, the KKK, Jim Crow Laws, Poll Taxes, Literacy Tests, and Grandfather Clauses. It is very informative and great for class discussion afterwards and linking to modern times.

U.S. Government Resources - Power Points, Guided Notes, HW, Tests, & Projects

UPDATE 8/1/2021 - I have converted the PowerPoints included in this bundle to google slides as well with all of the video included. You will get both with this package. This is a great deal of the materials that I use for my U.S. Government and U.S. Government Honors classes. This probably will not carry you for an entire school year, but it's close. Some of the things that I do in my class I do not have rights to (textbook worksheets, etc.) and I’m in no position to share. I also teach financi

This lesson goes best with my FREE powerpoint detailing the history of gerrymandering and how it has been used to divide and conquer. There are many ways you could use these worksheets but I suggest at the very least, as a part of your lesson, that you check out CGP Grey's youtube channel and show your students his segment on gerrymandering --> (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mky11UJb9A

This Frontline video explores the use of excessive money in Political campaigns today. It is really current and delves into Super Pacs and 501 4c groups. They interview Democrats and Republicans involved in these activities. It hits home the fact that the general public doesn't know the difference between candidate ads and issue ads. Nor does the public realize that outside groups are spending more on campaigning than local candidates and political parties! It questions the decision from the

The film is excellent and contains interviews with Brittany Kaiser, an American woman who had worked for Cambridge and decided to testify to US Congress. The video compellingly lays out who Cambridge Analytica was, and how they leveraged personal data to tailor advertising and even create campaigns that changed the outcome of el
