Parent Approval Letter for Classroom Library
This is a letter I keep in my library for books that I know are controversial. I keep about 20 copies in my "Parent Must Approve" section of my classroom library. This has been a lifesaver.
All parents have different expectations for what their kids will read. I want to provide a wide variety of young adult literature to my students. It literally takes about a minute to fill this out and send it home. Parent feedback has been positive!

7th Grade ELA Common Core Posters Reading Literature
This is a free preview of the posters I created for use in my classroom. They are the basic CCSS for reading in literature put into "I can" statements.
In my classroom, I three-hole punch them and put binder clips in the top. Then, I hang the binder clips up on the whiteboard so that my students know which standard we are going to mostly focus on during a given lesson. Evolution of Literature Standards
As a middle school teacher I often struggle with differentiating my instruction to meet the needs of each student. I found that using this evolution of standards chart has improved my small group instruction. I am able to see what the grade level expectation is and scaffold my instruction in order for my students to reach the new expectations set by the common core.
