The Story of Jamestown Powerpoint

Do we benefit from slavery today, as the North did in the 1800s?
This is a powerful lesson for students to see a modern connection to the past.Before this lesson, you should discuss with students how the North was complicit in slavery as much as the South was in the years prior to the Civil War. Northerners profited greatly off the backs of slave labor, whether they would have wanted to admit it or not. Schoolhouse Rock Fill-In the blank
I have typed up the lyrics to 3 of the history songs (No More Kings, Shot Heard Round the World and the Preamble) but have removed certain words. My students watch the video once and then fill in the lyrics as we listen a second (and sometimes third) time to the song. War of 1812: The True Story of the Battle of New Orleans
This is really interesting and really fun. First students read about the famous Battle of New Orleans, but then learn that it never needed to happen -- the war was already over! Use this PowerPoint song to help your students memorize the 13 colonies to the tune of "Turkey in the Straw". Not sure of the tune? An audio file of me singing the song is included in the PowerPoint. Causes of American Revolution Rap
This rap will help integrate the causes of the American Revolutionary War into a musical rap or poem for all students. Research shows that when information is presented in a different format it helps the students remember it more. This rap helped my struggling students remember dates and specific names for the causes of the American Revolution by making it a rap song that was fun to learn and they recited it for extra credit!
