This mini-unit is designed to teach and review with students the importance of being polite, respectful friends by not interrupting. Taking turns is an important life skill that students need to practice and learn. The unit can be used to teach and/or review with students in pre-K through 5 grade at any level, including a great resource for special education. Assembled here are eight individual resources used with 8th graders to conduct a mock trial based on Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart”. For my classes, this was a major-fun!- culminating project in the 2nd trimester. This persuasive speaking game will engage your students and get them debating to try and capture the mafia members.
Students are given a random card and then take on the role of a mafia member, police, nurse, vigilante, or citizen. The class must then work together to try and capture the mafia, through class debates and votes before the mafia have killed everyone.
