SUPER EASY lab prep for the teacher that students love because they get to "see" science. The lab requires minimal materials and do not need exact measurements. Students will be required to look at the chemical equation of breaking down peroxide into water and oxygen with the help of catalase. Students will be able to observe the effect of temperature and pH on the activity of enzymes.**UPDATED VERSION--December 2022

Classifying Matter Lab Activity - Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures

Created by
MS Science Spot
This is a great lab activity to reinforce elements, compounds, and mixtures (Classification of Matter). It is geared for middle school and possibly high school (you may edit to make it more challenging). The students love doing this and it is good to get them up and out of their seats. They may work in pairs of by themselves - that is up to you. This includes: * Teacher set up information with sample slides. * Student data collection sheets/directions * Answer Key * Pictures of some of my st

Chemistry Lab: Endothermic and Exothermic Reactions

Created by
Carey Munoz
This lab is completed with simple materials -- the only supplies you need are beaker, vinegar, baking soda, steel wool, and a thermometer. Students will complete a lab objective and review some vocabulary. Then, they will make a prediction, test their prediction with a short experiment, write data and conclude whether the reaction is endothermic or exothermic. Two reactions will be performed. This is a classic lab that is both student-friendly and teacher-friendly.

Scientific Method Lab: Alka Seltzer Tablets!

Background: Alka-Seltzer tablets fizz furiously when dropped in water. The moment the tablets start dissolving, a chemical reaction occurs which releases carbon dioxide gas at a predictable rate.
In these 4 mini experiments, students will use the steps of the scientific method to see if they can make Alka-Seltzer fizz faster or slower by changing variables such as type of water, amount of water, temperature of the water, and by grinding up the tablet!

Density of a Chocolate Bar Lab- Physical Science 8th grade

I created this lesson for my 8th grade physical science students. This lesson is an excellent example of how the density of a substance does not change when the size of the substance changes. Students will measure the mass and volume of a bar of chocolate and then use the density formula to find the density of the chocolate bar. Then the students break the chocolate bar in half, re-measure and re-weigh the chocolate bar and then find the density of the chocolate bar again. The students repea

This is an introduction to matter activity that I do with all levels of general science and chemistry classes that I have taught. There are various "Oobleck" or slime recipes available all around the internet - the one in this activity is close to slightly more fluid than Silly Putty and uses a Borax solution to bind the polymers in Elmer's Glue so that it will stick to itself. The activity involves no math and is purely qualitative observation-based. I have some pre-lab questions for the stu

A GREAT ADDITION TO A CLIMATE CHANGE OR HUMAN IMPACT UNIT (Higher Level- or even how adding CO2 to H2O changes the chemical composition) !!! The Lab is the main event of this TPT, but in this bundle I added the activities I did around this lab. The Lab took one 38 minute period, but can be longer with discussion.REST OF BUNDLE- To introduce environmental issues (after teaching carbon footprint) I used the environmental issues page for students to take notes and had that sheet on a smart notebook
