Onomatopoeia I HAVE / WHO HAS

As an ESL teacher, I have fallen in love with I have/who has games! They are a great way to have the students engaged while practicing their reading, speaking, and listening skills. This particular I have/who has game is dedicated to Onomatopoeia. The students are given a description of a sound, such as, "Who has the Onomatopoeia sound that you make when you are cold?" Another student will then respond, "I have BRRRR!" The students will enjoy making the silly sounds, while becoming familiar

Letter to Myself Time Capsule Project

Students create a letter to their future "self" to be placed in the teacher's time capsule for the year, month, or until graduation. This is a great end-of-year activity to get kids working and thinking about the future. I like to use this for my 7th grade for one year and save my 8th grade letters until their highschool graduation.

Create A Monster Wanted Poster Creative Writing Activity

I adapted this idea from another writing activity I was given my first year of teaching. This kids absolutely loved this! I used this activity when discussing descriptive writing and adjectives. Students would create a monster that committed annoying pranks. Students would first discuss possible ideas, and I would often show clips of Monsters Inc. in order to give them some ideas of what their monsters could look like and their annoying pranks. They would first plan their wanted poster out using

Give each group one of more verses of Edgar Alan Poe’s poem The Raven. Have the students totally and thoroughly translate the verse(s) into today’s modern language.

A series of six stations is ready to go. Students rotate with a piece of paper, a pen, a clipboard, and a small group of fellow students. Each station has complete (and quick--5 minutes tops per station) directions prompting students to
