Cultural Hero Project (Greek Mythology/Percy Jackson Unit)

Rhetoric Song Analysis Assignment
I did a lesson on rhetoric with my students and to get them introduced to the topic, we analyzed songs. Students chose songs to decipher how rhetoric was being used in a three part assignment of choosing the songs, answering questions about the songs, and preparing for a Socratic Seminar where they would all share as a group about the songs they chose. The House on Mango Street - "My Name" pre-activity
This assignment can be done as a bell ringer or independent in-class assignment to segue into the students writing their own "My Name" vignette. The audio reading of the first few vignettes is linked from Youtube, but you can edit that to fit your classroom structure.
