TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught a wide range of subjects in English and the Social Sciences for the last 10 years in secondary schools and academies in Australia and South East Asia. My strengths are in understanding film theory and visual literacy in classic and cult cinema as well as graphic novels. I also enjoy sharing the power of novels and poems, new, old and translated texts, to inspire students. I am also an avid traveller and I have a great fondness for history, especially early modern and ancient societies such as the Incas and Khmers.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I teach to activate and engage students in language, literature, film and history. I demonstrate and model skills rather than lecture students with content, and then it is up to students to lead their learning and inquiry. Sure knowledge and understanding is important, but transfer and application are also essential skills sets that our students need for this contemporary world.
