Principles of Design: Using the Golden Ratio as Art
This lesson borrows directly for Math Class: The Golden Ratio (1:1.618). It involves students making golden rectangles of various sizes/proportions, and arranging them in an interesting composition. The design may be further embellished by adding other elements such as colour, texture, and cut-outs (making negative space into a positive element). Coloured tissue could be applied to those negative spaces for additional effect.

Principles of Design: Composition à la Piet Mondrian
We all recognize the work of 20th Century Modernist, Piet Mondrian. This unit borrows from his work directly. It is a 2D composition using only the primary colours plus black, squares and rectangles cut from construction paper and glued onto a white background (cartridge paper). Plus, there are a few extension ideas for higher learners included.

Principles of Design: Creating a design based on Geometric Math forms:
Similar to my lesson "Elements of Design: Form and 3D", this lesson focuses more on the compositional arrangement of said geometric Math forms, meant to demonstrate several principles of design, such as balance, rhythm, proportion, unity, movement, variety, and emphasis.
It is essentially a monotone picture assignment, utilizing just pencil, but could be further indulged as a colour composition as well, simply by adding the extra element of colour.
