I have been teaching K-12 education since 1997 with most of my experience in private and homeschool education. Since 2003, I have studied and implemented progressive education methods including child self-directed education. I specialize in nature based thematic unit studies for grades 5 - 12. I have seven years of experience leading youth outdoor activities including beginners birding, animal tracking, stream and pond studies, hiking, plant ID, primitive skills, nature photography, and learning centers.
I believe humans learn best when they're most passionate and desirous to learn something. The real juice for a learner is when they're excited to learn. If they are not interested in learning something, they probably won't learn it and should have the freedom to move onto something they are excited to learn about!
I've had the honor and privilege of leading a nature-based onsight homeschool program called Heathcote Art and Science from 2010 - 2011. I led 18 multi-age homeschoolers on a student focused learning journey. We had access to 112 acres of beautiful wooded land. We studied birding, wildflowers, did nature crafts, wrote stories, did nature chemistry, read stories aloud, journaled, photographed nature. We had the very best times of our lives!
I have a BA in K-12 eduction from Maryland Bible College and Seminary and Kamana I and II certificates of completion from the Wilderness Awareness School with grad course study from Fresno University.
