The Human Body {Systems Connections Assessment Plan}
Here is an assessment plan that includes two tasks and several assessment strategies aimed at the learning outcome "Describe how the body systems are connected."
My students needed to learn teamwork skills while working on their posters in groups and really improved their understanding of this topic through assessment "FOR/AS/OF" learning.

Human Body Unit Research Project and Presentation
Wanting to end your human body unit with something that will allow students to learn more than what you were able to teach in the classroom? Well here's the project and information already here for you! This packet includes a parent letter, resources, and grading rubric for a human body research project. Each student will create a 2-D or 3-D model of a body part, write a report, and give a presentation in class.

This is a week long project that includes a student booklet, checklist, rubric, and teacher information. During this project students will research about bones, complete various activities including a bones race and dissecting an owl pellet. At the end of the week students will create and present a student led presentation.
Human Body Self-Guided Study Project
NGSS and Common Core aligned project guidelines and rubric for an in-depth study of an organ of the human body. Fully editable, it allows you to customize this for your purposes, most appropriate for grades 4-6. I use this as a wrap up for 5th grade study of the human body systems. Human Body Systems - 5 False Facts
Students research and make a quiz that includes true and false facts about one of the major organ systems. Fellow students must figure out which statements are true and which are not! A graphic organizer is included for their research-- I copy it onto larger paper. A rubric is included for assessment purposes.
I am teaching a split grade this year and most of the Grade 5 students were able to do this activity independently while I worked with my Grade 6 students.
