Young children can practice classification skills. I use this activity after a group discussion about sorting, and different ways to sort. We do the notebook lesson as a group and children readily see that there are different ways to classify the buttons, by focusing on different properties of the buttons. The worksheet follows. I give each student a little bag with eight buttons to work with.
