Graphing Quadratic Functions: Guided Notes, Practice, Quiz, Smart Notebook

Created by
Kellen O'Connor
This is a lesson on graphing quadratics. The lesson comes with all needed materials. The package includes guided notes, practice problems, a quiz, and the Smart Notebook file (if you use it). The lesson discusses the 3 main forms of a quadratic (standard, vertex, intercept) and how we can use those different forms to graph a quadratic function. Students are asked to find key points, such as the vertex, x-intercepts, and y-intercept. Inside the notes, there are several examples, designed so

This PowerPoint presentation investigates the fundamental trigonometric angle measurement known as a radian. You will learn what a radian is, how it is derived, and the relationship between radians and degrees. After learning the definition of an angle you will then review some basic geometric concepts. Using the definition of an angle and the geometric concepts a radian is defined and an animation shows how a radian is derived in a circle. The relationship between degree and radian measurem

The graphics are Microsoft Smart Art graphics and can be easily changed to match your school colors or presentation theme. Here, the unit circle presented as a collection of divisions in radians first by eighths, then by twelfths and then as a division in angles first by 45 degrees, then by 30 degrees. Each radian fraction flies in as a fraction over 4 so students can see how the divisions of a unit circle are 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 7/4, and 8/4 and then these radians are simplified.

Guided Exploration: Polynomial Functions

42-item teacher-lead inquiry into properties and behavior of Polynomial Functions. Best used at the beginning of a unit on polynomial functions (before demonstrating how to solve textbook problems), this activity invites students to use inductive reasoning and class discussion to discover the big ideas behind graphing polynomial functions without a graphing utility.

I use these as lesson notes with my pre-calculus class when solving exponential growth and decay word problems. In the boxes, I give them the formulas for each type, and then apply them to real world problems from the Los Angeles area I have researched. It makes the lesson more attainable and fun for the students. For these, I use the formulas that involve e where appropriate, but these can easily be changed to their non-e counterparts.
